This section of the web site contains the different videos we have been making. Please don’t be put off by the horrible purple reference frame - we are working to change it! All the videos are covered by a Creative Commons license.
This video has been produced by Pontydysgu and friends as our entry for the Alt-C2008 Digital Slam competition. We discussed the idea over skype and then each recorded our own part of the soundtrack. The text is from Wikipedia entries about the Digital Divide. We wanted to bring music and pictures togather to explore the multi faceted and often contradictory phenonomon of the digital divide. And we wanted to bring voices and pictures together from different countries and cultures. We had orginally intended to include Greek language in the mash but found that there is no Digital Divide entry in the Greek version of Wikipedia. We will write one.
Anyway hope you enjoy it.

Hi Steve - very difficult question. But - in my point of view one way to get them engaged is to show them how they could benefit - because we must get clear how we benefit.
Steve - will try to give longer reply in a new post - but one immediate thought is that many learners find it difficut to express themselves in the very limited formats that we prescibe through the academic schooling system - and its constrains their natural creativity.
What else is going on? Alt-C themselves have go in on the act and are providing access to the keynote speeches through Elluminate. Just head over here to get the full details. Teknoloji
I have always fun “wandering around” in YouTube and find interesting things. In some cases its new or like here older stuff but still very funny and not only funny I really enjoyed the argument in this small vid.
It makes me remembering talking and discussing with different people is always important: I learn something new or get new views into a problem or it helps me “finishing” a thought or getting the arguments into proper order by explaining and defending my position and work with the critique.
So have fun with this a bit off-topic debate.
I spent an evening last week with Jenny Hughes gathering together a selection of videos for the front page slot on this site for the next six or so weeks. And we have some great videos for you. If you have any ideas of a video we should feature please email me or leave a comment. But please do watch this one. As Jenny says”If Berners Lee invented the enabling technology, this was the guy who invented the idea!”
Key for me about understanding the changing ways in which we are teaching and learning is the deep seated changes going on in our societies. I talked about this in a presentation in Pesaro in Italy. And Jens Vermeersch captured my ramblings on a digital camera. Thanks Jens for this short video clip.
YouTube is becoming a great resource for tecahing and learning. Over the next few months I’m going to feature some of my favourites in this spot. This video was made by bjnesbitt who says “This project was created to inspire teachers to use technology in engaging ways to help students develop higher level thinking skills. Equally important, it serves to motivate district level leaders to provide teachers with the tools and training to do so.”
First in a new series of short vidcasts (is that the right word?). In this one I talk about the idea of ‘rich surveys’. Puzzled? What to know more? Just watch the video. It is about 5 minutes long.
